Huttel Medical Outreach, Ghana

by Merlin Matthews last modified 2008-06-04 10:24

Medical outreach workers and agricultural advisors use bicycles to visit outlying villages hard to reach by car, even if motorised transport was available. Staff and volunteers at the Huttel Health Centre in Boamadumasi village provide health education and medical services including everything from mid-wifery to treating snakebites. Eighteen Royal Mail bicycles are used by voluntary outreach health workers who visit twelve outlying villages. In total the health centre serves 8,000 people. Photo by Melvyn Hodgetts. NOTE - more high res pictures of this mechanic available.
