Re-Cycle, a charity shipping used bikes to Africa
Virtually everything bought or sold, must be transported, and almost everyone needs transport to get to work or school. Simple, affordable transport is a key factor in generating wealth in developing countries.
In Britain, thousands of bicycles are thrown away or lie unused in sheds, while in Africa walking is the principal means of transport. Walking can take up to 4 hours per day (for collecting water, or walking to school). The burden adds massively to the average family's workload, hampering economic and education opportunities. A bicycle cuts travel time to a fraction and allows for carrying pasengers and heavy loads.
Re~Cycle's mission is to collect and ship secondhand bicycles and parts to Africa. With the help of our partners, we teach local people the skills to repair and maintain them, to improve their lives in a sustainable way.
We have sent over 23,000 bikes so far!
