How To Overview

An overview of the How To section, listing areas

The basic premise is very straight forward - however, there's depth in all the parts, is more involved and will take longer than you think

Get Help - Merlin set up Re~Cycle pretty much on his own, not a good idea

  • Many heads are better than one
  • Different skills needed, a bunch of marketing folk wouldn't be much good, nor would a bunch of accountants, need a mix of skills
  • Time available goes up and down, as does energy

Keep Quiet about asking for bikes - until you've got a good amount of storage and somewhere to send them - or you'll end up flooded with bikes

Ask For A Cash Donation with each bike, towards running costs

  • This will be unrestricted funds, so you can spend it on 'unsexy things' like phone bills and rent
  • Has been found to increase the quality of the bikes you get in
  • I'll say it again, there's not a shortage of bikes!

Do Local Projects with bikes as well as shipping overseas

  • Is a LOT of bikes out there
  • Thus get local beneficiaries, which funders like, as not all like overseas work

Get bike shops to collect used spare parts

  • Needed for refurbishing the bikes at the other end, and for fixing bikes already over there
  • This will increase the value of the load
  • Can fit under and in between the bikes

Likewise, collecting and shipping mobile phones will add value

Need feedback from the African end, is not so easy - see our docs [link to follow]
